Isaiah 31:1

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 30th

Isaiah 31:1

“Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horseman, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord!”

Egypt always represents the world, so what this passage is saying is woe to those who seek to the world for their help. That word woe means confusion and calamity.

So we could say it like this (confusion and calamity shall be to them that seek to the world for their help, and seek not the Lord for help.)

The Lord told King Asa to seek the Lord before he sought the doctors, but Asa did not obey God in this thing and because he sought the doctors first he died.

Let us seek the Lord first no matter what our trouble is today.

Psalm 90:12

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 29th

Psalm 90:12

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”

Scripture says the days of man are three score and ten. A score is twenty years, so that would be seventy years. Then the scripture goes on to say that by reason of strength we might have four score years which would be eighty years.

We need to learn to number our days. There is another scripture that says our life is like a vapor, here today and gone tomorrow.

What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?

We should ponder these things and then take account of how we are spending our days.

You can read about all this in Psalm chapter 90

James 5:16

Hope in the
Night Season

November 28th

James 5:16

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

There is nothing that will humble you and make you like a little child as quick as confessing your sins one to another, it is good for the soul.

And your prayer for someone else may be the very thing that causes you to receive your healing.

The last promise in this verse just might be my favorite, when you pray fervently you will yield much and have great results, don’t ever underestimate the power of prayer.

Prayer can move mountains, dry up seas, call down fire from heaven and shut the mouths of lions, just to mention a few things that prayer has done for the saints of old.

When we neglect our prayer closet, we cheat ourselves out of a world of blessings.

James 4:17

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 27th

James 4:17

“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

If you know the scripture says obey your master (your boss) and you do not do it, that is sin unto you.

If you know the scripture says to tithe and give offerings and you do not do it, that is sin unto you.

And the list goes on. God holds you responsible for the knowledge you have.

Also if we don’t walk in the light we have, he will never give us more light.

So if you need an answer from God, do what you know to do and he will increase your knowledge.

James 4:4

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 26th

James 4:4

“…Know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”

No matter how much we want to we cannot be friends with the things of the world and friends with God. Although many profess to do so, this scripture proves that this is impossible.

So as Joshua said we must choose this day whom we will serve. God or the world, God or money, God or the flesh. We cannot have both.

When the flood came men were either in the ark or they were drowned in the flood. We are either with God or we are against him there is no middle ground, no gray area.

Examine your heart today and see if you are in the ark or not.

Before it’s to late to change places.

James 1:22

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 25th

James 1:22

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

If we hear the word, even preach the word or teach the word, but do not do the word we are self deceived.

The Lord says what he means, and means what he says. If we preach about witnessing but never witness ourselves that makes us a hypocrite. We must heed what we read and do it.

If we do not do what we know to do we are holding the truth in unrighteousness as spoken about in Romans Chapter 1 verse 18 and we are without excuse as verse 20 reveals. Then in verse 24 God gives them up to uncleanness.

It’s very dangerous to know the truth and chose not to do it.

James 1:19

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 24th

James 1:19

“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:”

You learn a lot more by listening than by speaking. We need to listen and observe before we set out to speak.

If we will sift all we see and hear through scripture before we react we will save ourselves a lot of grief.

If we will keep Romans 8:28 in the forefront of our mind we will be a lot slower to react.

Romans 8:28

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

This scripture is true whether it seems true or not.

Amen!

James 1:5

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 23rd

James 1:5

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. “

Here is a wonderful promise we can have wisdom if we ask for it. Wisdom is a very good thing to desire. Wisdom is better than knowledge in that you know how to use the knowledge you do have correctly.

Scripture says over and over that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. So ask for wisdom today from God. He promises to give us wisdom and not chastise us for asking for it.

Wisdom was with God when the world was being formed and will be with God when the world is no more.

It is more to be sought after than silver or gold.

Matthew 16:24

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 22nd

Matthew 16:24

“Then Jesus said unto his disciples, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”

Jesus said we must do three things if we want to be his disciples, we must first deny ourselves, second we must take up our cross, and thirdly we must follow him, let us take these one at a time and look at them.

Deny yourself, means to not allow your flesh to do, think and have its own way. We must allow our mind to be renewed so that we want to do, think and have what Jesus would want.

To take up our cross means to be willing to suffer for Christ if need be.

And to follow him of course means to go where he says go and do what he says do. And to choose the way he would choose. Amen!

2 Peter 1:2

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 20th

2 Peter 1:2

“Grace and Peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.”

The Lord showed me, if you want mashed potatoes you start with potatoes. If you want peace you move toward that goal by seeking the knowledge of God, there is no peace without him.

Seeking the knowledge of God would involve reading the word, praying, fasting and denying yourself, but it is well WORTH IT!

If you owned the whole world and did not have peace you would have nothing.

Men would trade worlds for peace.

So let us seek the Prince of Peace, today, so that we might be calm in our spirits.

1 Peter 5:10

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 19th

1 Peter 5:10

“But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”

Scripture says that Jesus learned obedience through the things he suffered, if that is true of the spotless lamb, how much more must we have to learn obedience through suffering.

The good news is it won’t last forever, there is coming a day that the Lord will remove your suffering and then he will establish you, strengthen you and settle you. Praise God!!!

Like the song says he will plant my feet on higher ground. He will put a song in my heart and a skip in my step, that may seem impossible right now I know. But is anything to hard for God?

No, I think not.

He will do as he has said!

1 Peter 3:15

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 18th

1 Peter 3:15

“But santify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”

When someone sees and hears that you are different from the world that you have hope where there is no hope (in the natural), be ready to meekly and humbly tell them why.

That you have hope because you walk with someone who is hope, who is love, who shows you things other mean don’t see. And tells you things other men don’t hear. And his NAME IS JESUS!

Tell them about the pit you used to live in, and how he brought you out and washed you and changed you and gave you hope!

Yes, hope even when it seems darkest!

1 Peter 2:9

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 17th

1 Peter 2:9

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

Ye are chosen first of all, scripture says we did not chose him but he chose us. That should call for much thankfulness on our part.

We are also a peculiar people, a different people so others would see that there is a God who can dispel the darkness of sin and give to us light.

If someone is watching your life would they be able to tell the difference and know that, yes there is a God? Or do you look and act just like the worldly man?

We must come out from among them and be separate we must not look and act like the carnal man if we are going to be salt and light.

1 Peter 4:16-17

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 16th

1 Peter 4:16-17

“Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God?”

The scriptures say if we suffer with him we shall also reign with him.

Take heed my friend if there is never a dark cloud over thine house it may be you are not of the house of Israel.

Verse 18 goes on to say

“And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear.”

You won’t hear these verses taught in the modern day church, but that does not make them any less true.

Our God is a consuming fire (so the scriptures say).

Turn to him while there is still grace on earth to do so.

John 6:17

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 15th

John 6:17

“…And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.”

Is it dark in your life today? You wonder where Jesus is, why he hasn’t answered your prayer.

Rest assured He sees everything you are going through and has your best interest at heart. And soon and very soon you will see Him right in the middle of your mess, your problem, and your heart will be filled with joy that He truly has been there all the time.

I love the song that says it like this.

“He was there all the time, there all the time. Waiting patiently in line, He was there all the time.”

He has to let us try and steer the ship, till we realize we can’t, so that we will willingly give him permission to be at the helm of our life!

Look back at all the times, He has not given you your way and what grief that He has saved you from.

Philippians 2:3

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 14th

Philippians 2:3

“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory;…”

Do we do our works for the Lord to be seen of men, or to impress men?

The Lord here says don’t let that be so said of you.

Do all things as unto the Lord, and not to be a show for vainglory.

I don’t believe I can count the ministries that I have seen that have started out so humble and anointed and used by God, only to loose that anointing through vainglory.

It was so with Saul, in the beginning he was small in his own eyes, but after he achieved success his heart was lifted up. And he was brought down.

How many time is this the case with us we are mightily used of God, but when we start believing it is our talent or our knowledge we fall from grace.

Take heed today not to think more highly of yourself than ye ought.

Romans 16:17

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 13th

Romans 16:17

“Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.”

Would God tell us to avoid someone? You may say that does not sound like a loving God. I would say to you the pages of scripture don’t lie.

In James 3:16 the scripture says where there is strife and contention there is every evil work. The Lord does not want us to be surrounded with strife and such, so these words are loving words to protect his real children from those who only profess to be the children of God, but really they stir up strife and cause division every where they go.

Romans 16:18 goes on to tell us why they do these things. It is because they serve their own belly and not the Lord Jesus Christ.

So the answer to the question is yes indeed the Lord would tell us to avoid certain people.

Romans 10:2

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 12th

Romans 10:2

“For I bear them record that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.”

Are we zealous for God, that is good, but are we serving God in the area He wants us to, or are we saying God I am going to serve over here so bless what I am doing? So many times I’m afraid this is the case, it was so with the writer also early on in my walk with the Lord.

But if we continue on in this way, we will find ourselves worn out and exhausted with little or no fruit to show for our efforts. Thinking God has failed us, when God never called us into this certain work in the first place.

So let us learn from those who have gone before and not create any Ishmaels, but seek God for a sure word before we begin or continue our work.

For the scripture says “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”

John 5:24

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 11th

John 5:24

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

These letters are in red, being the words of Jesus himself, and then for him to speak the words verily, verily add even the more weight to his words.

He is saying truly, truly if you have done these things listed in this scripture you are born again and you surely have everlasting life. You are no longer dead in trespasses and sins but are passed into eternal life even though you still live on earth, you already have eternal life now.

That is why the scripture says in another place, O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

So therefore death to us is nothing more than moving day! Amen!

Psalms 147:11

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 10th

Psalms 147:11

“The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.”

This is a hard passage to understand if you think about it. Can you imagine that you cause God pleasure. The God who created everything takes pleasure in you. That is an awesome statement.

Well if you fear the Lord and hope in his mercy then you bring the God of the universe pleasure.

I think about it like this, when a toddler comes into a room no matter who else is in that room, kings, presidents, important men by the worlds standards. A toddler and the precious things they do can bring all in the room a pleasure and a smile they did not have before.

When you come into God’s presence you bring a smile to his face and a glow to his eye. What a wonderful God we serve.

Psalms 28:7

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 8th

Psalms 28:7

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”

If I was left to rely on my own strength I would surely perish, but praise God, I can rely on God’s strength. I can trust him, he is my shield.

The scripture proclaims I would have fainted if I had not believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. He is a living God who helps a living people.

He is a very present help in times of trouble. Are you in a time of trouble today? If so then you have a sure helper to call on. His name is Jesus, the only true and living God.

No man can come to the father but by him.

God help us to strengthen ourselves in the Lord today.

Isaiah 12:1

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 7th

Isaiah 12:1

“And in that day thou shalt say, O Lord, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me; thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortest me.”

It can be a scary place when the Lord is angry with us. It feels like your prayers are not going beyond your ceiling. He feels so far away. But we are not to despair he will not stay angry forever. He will comfort us.

Can a mother forsake her child, yea though a mother forsake her child, God will NOT forsake you and I.

So take hold of his garment and do not let go. Plead for a crumb, a token for good. Keep pressing in through prayer, reading the word, fasting or whatever it takes, and there will come that glorious day when God will come to you and comfort you.

For there is no other name given whereby men must be saved. Amen!!

Psalms 32:9

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 6th

Psalms 32:9

“Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.”

A horse will obey you as long as you have a bit in his mouth, because it hurts to go the wrong way. When you take the bit out of the horses’ mouth he no longer goes where you want him to go but he goes wherever he wants to go.

The children of Israel were like the horse. When affliction came they obeyed and sought the Lord, and when God heard their cry and delivered them they went back to following their flesh.

The affliction was their bit and when the bit was removed, they like the horse went back to their old ways.

The horse does not have understanding so we can excuse him for this, but, we as the children of God should have the understanding that our actions could very well be what is causing our afflictions to return time after time.

Psalms 34:19

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 5th

Psalms 34:19

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.”

Our afflictions may be very many in number, and this is quite necessary, because without afflictions some of us won’t grow in the Lord, we won’t seek the Lord with our whole heart. That is why David said it is good for me that I was afflicted, because before I was afflicted I went astray, but now have I kept thy law.

Our afflictions sometimes drive us right into the arms of our father which is exactly where we need to be.

God will allow the affliction to stay just long enough for it to do it’s perfect work and then he will deliver us speedily!

Our afflictions can be our teachers if we yield to God in them. The sooner we yield the sooner the affliction can be lifted!

Acts 10:4

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 4th

Acts 10:4

“…Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before
God.”

There is not one prayer you have prayed in Jesus name that the father has not heard. He takes notice when we pray. And he takes notice of our giving as well.

Have you been praying for someone or something but have not seen the answer. Don’t despair but keep praying. Ask the Lord to show you if there is any reason your prayer is being hindered, and if so make the proper adjustments to your prayer.

His ear is not dull that he cannot hear neither is his arm too short that he cannot move in your situation.

When we feel our prayer is being hindered we can inquire of the Lord the reason why through asking the Lord to search our heart, through fasting, through reading his word and many other ways to see if we are praying amiss.

Acts 2:21

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 3rd

Acts 2:21

“And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

I like that word whosoever, that means no matter what race, religion, age, nationality you are you can call on the name of the Lord and be saved!!

Jesus’ blood was shed for all the whosoever’s in the world and he is not willing that any should perish. All we have to do is call on his name, we don’t have to know the Bible we don’t have to understand doctrine or know Hebrew or Greek. All we have to do is call on the name of the Lord.

He made it so simple a child could come. What a gracious, loving God we have that he would make it so simple for us to be saved. And live with him forever in heaven.

Today is the day of salvation don’t wait until tomorrow.

1 Peter 4:7

Hope in the
Night Seasons

November 2nd

1 Peter 4:7

“But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.”

Scripture teaches that as it was in Noah’s day so shall it be in ours. One thing that was noted about Noah’s days was that the thought of man was evil continually.

It also says that no man knew of that day until Noah and his family went into the ark and the door was shut. And then the rains came.

Should we not watch and pray as the scripture says, lest the door be shut and we be found on the outside wanting in. Our ark is not made of wood, but our ark is Jesus Christ.

Pray that you might be found worthy to escape the wrath to come. And enter into safety with your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
